Even though it’s considered an Americanized tradition by many Danes, Danes are celebrating Halloween (allehelgensaften). This tradition has become a reason to ‘hygge’ with your family and friends. Combined with the autumn holidays (efterårsferie), families gather to carve pumpkins into small lanterns with scary faces, placing them on the doorsteps and gardens. And use the time to focus on the family.
During this week you can visit Tivoli for their take on Halloween here and many other stores, which are having special Halloween themes and activities for children. But the adults are not left out – you shouldn’t be surprised to see bars like Tir Na Nog and clubs having Halloween themes. Meeting zombies and vampires in the nightlife isn’t a rarity at this time of year!
