Visit Kalø Slotsruin

Spring has finally arrived to Denmark and with the long and sunny days, it is a great opportunity to visit the ruins of Kalø castle -“Kalø Slotsruin”. These old and historical ruins are located just 30 min by car outside of Aarhus, and are situated in beautiful surroundings next to the sea.

The walk from the parking lot to the castle is about 0,5 kilometers and the walk takes you back 700 years in history. On the way you will meet cows who are grassing next to the path and at the end of road you will find the ruins of the once modern castle, where the later to be king of Sweden, Gustav Vasa, once was held as a prisoner by King Erik Menved.

It is free of charge to visit the ruins, and it is open all day year around. You can find folders at the parking lot telling the history of the castle and its surroundings. During the summer holiday guides will be available for free tours.
