Samsø: A Little Piece of the Best of Denmark
Spring has finally landed and most of us are probably already looking ahead to our summer holidays. The island of Samsø, or Sam’s island, has long been regarded as a hidden gem. It was given by one of Denmark’s kings to his mistress, whose ancestors still own part of the island. The Viking trail comprises of many historical sites such as appreciating the well preserved timbered houses, canals, harbours, picturesque bike/hiking trails and marveling at the many castles located in the island. Samsø also has 11 wind turbines which account for the island’s electricity and its inhabitants use straw, solar and wood chips as their primary heating source. Read more on this treasure island!
