Kartoffelferie - The Potato Holiday
In the past, when a large part of the Danish population still lived in the countryside, many families were busy working on the fields in autumn. Every year in autumn, children were taken out of school for a week to work side by side with their parents, harvesting potatoes before winter knocked on the door.
To this day children enjoy a school-free week in October to hold autumn holiday, which is also known as kartoffelferie (potato holiday) among Danes. Only the holiday program has changed a little over the years J. Autumn holidays in Denmark are now filled with events and activities for children to participate in.
