This statutory holiday in Denmark always coincides with the start of the summer season. Many Danes consider this holiday to announce the start of the summer. On these two days, Danes will often go to their summer houses, enjoy outdoor activities and relish in the sunny weather (if we’re lucky!) Since it is a religious holiday, there are church services held. In fact, it is considered to be one of the most important days in the Christian calendar followed by Christmas & Easter. There is a well known Danish hymn entitled, In All Its Splendour Now the Sun’s Rays, is sung on this day.
