Aarhus Festival 2017

Aarhus Festival is an annual event that fills the streets of Aarhus with life, laughter, and lots of fun events and activities. We have gathered a small selection of the events below, but be sure to check out the full program to make the most out of the week. And don't forget the best event for expats on Saturday, August 26 - Expat Reception!  

The City Stage

Mølleparken is transformed during the Festival as some of Aarhus’ music institutions put the city’s musical talent on display at The City Stage. During the week, newcomers will play alongside established professionals at free concerts and shows. There will be experiences and events for all ages and through many genres.

Senses of Cities

“Senses of Cities” is an interactive musical theater experience, which invites children and adults on an exploratory journey into our senses. The audience gets to explore a built-in interactive installation of senses, in which they can test and challenge their senses by tasting, smelling, feeling, seeing, and hearing. Flower Power

After the sun goes down, a virtual flower garden sprouts up on Bispetorvet and decorates the central square in an array of colours. Three luminous flower beds with projections of Danish flora grow, sprout, wither and make way for new life in a natural cycle. But human intervention is inevitable and, as the audience moves around on the installation.

MFC Street Food Market

During the Aarhus Festival MFC Street Food will host a street food market at Institute for (X) at Godsbanen, where you can enjoy all kinds of delicious street food. All meals will have a set price of DKK 50.

Jump With Us 

"Jump with Us" is an inflatable play land for children aged 0-11 years. There are slides, bouncy cushions, obstacle lanes and climbing towers for the larger children and crayfishes, different play animals and various hopping activities for the smaller children.

Bazar Vest

Bazar Vest once again moves into Store Torv, bringing stalls, activity, bargains, smells and tastes, a bridge between the city centre and Gellerup is built. At the many stands, you will be able to buy a wide selection of foods and spices, as the exotic Middle East is brought into the center of Aarhus.

Future Feminism

A series of performances, talks, workshops and events hosted by the artists will transpire during the course of the exhibition by New-York-based authors. Vesterbro Falls

Aarhus Festival and SLA Architects will transform the central square and traffic junction Vesterbro Torv into a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. A massive scaffold shaped as a stairway with a tree-covered garden at the top is erected in the square. From the top, a waterfall drops with soothing sounds of surging water, in stark contrast to the noise of the passing cars. Vesterbro Falls will work as a physical talking point in a debate about green city development.

The City Park

Play, education and relaxation sit side by side in the green and family friendly City Park between Concert Hall Aarhus and City Hall. Among the many events in the park, guests of all ages can enjoy the many cheerful dance exhibitions while treating themselves to some delicious street food at The Mess Hall. Fairbar will entertain with music and dance in the park, where the great street art exhibition can also be found. Early birds can start the day with yoga the little ones can visit Circus Krone, ride the mini-train or play in the bouncy castle.

Aarhus Street Art Festival 

Street art is found all over the world, from run-down buildings to expensive auctions in art-lover society. But it is also a genre that is difficult to define. What does the term ‘street art’ actually cover?

A Walk in the Park

An active and fun family day for children 0-8 years and their parents, grandparents, etc. Come and have fun in the big lounge area, bring your picnic basket or buy delicious food from the food trucks.

Backyard Music and Garage Drawings – for kids

The cultural community “The Garage” gathers together children’s book illustrators and children’s musicians for a 1-day festival in the garden. All families and children are invited to concerts, workshops, storytelling, drawing workshops, lectures, dance and much more. It's free, it's magical, and it's funny!

Silent Disco Squad

Silent Disco offers you the opportunity to move around Aarhus like you never have before. In a group we will all dance through Aarhus and spread joy to our surroundings. We will listen to the same music track but on our own individual devices and headphones. Thus, bypassers will not hear the music, but only watch you and the rest of the dancing group bust the grooviest moves.

Art Bar with Artist-in-residence Malgorzata Zurada

Malgorzata is a Polish artist who investigates different notions of meaning and belief, with a special interest in unorthodox mythologies, the occult, and ritual.

TEDxAdventure: Wild Visions

Inspiring speeches and ideas worth spreading! Since everything we do in TEDxAarhus is in English, the same will go for the event. All information, speeches etc. will be delivered in English and English only. Hopefully, this will make the event attractive to a more international audience as well.
