Danish & Fun

Date: 12 May 2019
Time: 13:30 - 15:30
Location: Café Smagløs, Klostertorvet 7, 8000 Aarhus C

What is Danish & Fun?
Danish & Fun is a weekly meeting for people who want to learn and help each other with practicing Danish.

Organized by VisitAarhus ReThinkers, International Community and a couple of passionate volunteers!

There are no certified teachers, course plans, or evaluations of your learning process - we meet to speak Danish. Coordinators make a programme for each session full of fun activities to help facilitate the conversation. The setting is informal and the atmosphere is relaxed nevertheless the main focus is still on learning and practicing Danish.

At Danish & Fun you can meet other internationals who are keen to improve their Danish. We also encourage Danes to come and so we are always on the lookout for volunteers who can keep up the conversation. Thus, you are always welcome to bring your Danish friends!

Practical information

Danish & Fun takes place every Sunday from 13:30-15:30. This time we will have a social edition of the event, where we visit Café  Smagløs and try to practice the language in an informal setting. The participants can each purchase beverages and snacks from the bar of the café.

We meet at 13:30 and split into groups to ensure that everyone gets a chance to speak. The groups will be formed according to the Danish level of the participants. You are more than welcome to bring paper and a pen to write down the new words.

Advice to participants
1. Talk, talk, talk - We are here to practice Danish and you do that best by using the language actively! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – we are all learning and we all make mistakes. You don’t learn, if you don’t try.

2. Talk to other internationals - Danish is not your native language but that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn from each other and practice together. Most participants will be internationals and there won’t be enough Danes to match each workgroup.

3. Be open-minded and helpful - Instead of laughing at others’ mistakes, gently correct them and explain what they did wrong. Next time it might be you making a mistake you would like to learn from.
