At the workshop, you will learn how to create a poem or a short essay in English, first following the rules of skaldic (Viking) poetry and then trying to elude them.
The play of etymology will help you to become aware of the importance of choosing the right word while writing an original composition. After being made aware of the patterns that lead to metaphorical creation, every participant will throughout the course learn how to find a personal voice.
Eventually, you will either curate a selection of metaphorical texts or choose to write your own collection.
The workshop is conducted by Flavia Teoc. Flavia has a PhD in Philology focused on kenning metaphors from skaldic (Viking poetry), and she has recently published a book about the language of skaldic poetry. In the past years, she has organized a literary circle where she taught creative writing. She is currently working on her new book about different manners of creative writing and intends to publish it in English.
Suitable for beginners between 16-90 years. Please bring a notebook and pen for the workshop.
